Since Fuelling Relief left Calais we have been actively searching for a project where we could make the biggest impact. We have been in contact with a fantastic organisation called Salam LADC who provide aid to refugees in Lebanon. Together we are currently devising a project plan that we hope to reveal shortly.

Who are Salam LADC?

Salam LADC (Lebanese Association for Development and Communication)  is a local Lebanese organization that supports vulnerable populations in Lebanon, by providing direct aid in close collaboration with the community, their beneficiaries and other partners. 2 years ago they started accepting international volunteers, who have been instrumental in fundraising, advocacy and assisting with their projects on the ground.

Salam LADC are located in Bekaa valley, Lebanon. Lebanon has a population of about 4 million people and has a staggering population of refugees that is estimated to be close to 2 million. The Bekaa valley is located on average 1,000 meters above sea level. This makes the winters particularly harsh, sub zero degrees and a meter of snow is not uncommon. Flooding is rampant, and torrential rains common. It is therefore essential to prepare the refugees there for the harsh winter that is about to settle in.

The Project

The winter months increase the vulnerability of the Syrian and Palestinian refugees living in makeshift tents, unfinished houses, garages, warehouses and other improvised shelters. Inadequate supplies of fuel, food, heating stoves, and suitable clothing for the freezing conditions are among the greatest needs Salam LADC is currently preparing for.

"The main need during the winter time is heating support"
Salam LADC, Nov 2017

Salam LADC do their best to ensure that the aid they provide targets those individuals who have been assessed as not only vulnerable, but who also would otherwise not receive support.

We aim to supply them with as many diesel heaters and as many litres of diesel as we can!

How Much Does it Cost?

  • Heating oil: $10 for 20 Liters
  • Diesel Heating Stoves: $35
